The small mountain town of Cornu intends to revive its central public space by reinventing its existing public library.
Currently, the existing building, with no architectural quality, is failing to house the library and ethnological museum exhibits, so it has been decided it would be replaced by a larger, contemporary building, up to date in regard to modern public building necessities. Our proposal tries to make the best use of a contorted site, by mitigating between existing tensions – a small public park, existing buildings, and a very conservative public opinion.
In terms of functions, the ground floor is reserved for the library, and a multi functional space with a significant ceiling height. On the first floor, the ethnological collection of local historical objects, and also a map collection, find their much deserved exhibition space, with abundent northern natural light, captured by means of shed-type skylights.
The project is under development, and has went through a number of different phases.
